About Friar Alessandro
When you meet Friar Alessandro Brustenghi you realise straight away there is something beatific, possibly angelic about him. Slight and sweet in his brown Friar’s garb. When we meet in the Porziuncola-Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli/St. Mary of the Angels in Assisi he talks ...
Friar Alessandro comes back to Washington!
After his successful mini-tour of Europe, Friar Alessandro returned to Italy where he fulfilled a number of concert engagements culminating in an appearance at the Tomariello d’Oro presented by Fabrizio Frizzi and Manuela Arcuri. He is preparing now for a trip across the ocean to the United States. Whilst in the States he will be performing three concerts telling the story of St. Francis through acting and music in conjunction with a project known as St. Francis in the Schools. These concerts are for invited schoolchildren and will take place in Washington DC (2) and Baltimore. The first of these is to take place at the Holy Land Franciscan Monastery on 10th October, followed by a visit to Baltimore where Alessandro will sing at the Basilica of the Assumption on 17th October. He returns to sing in Washington on 20th October before returning to Italy the next day. He has also been invited to sing at the 9.30 am mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral New York on 13th October, Columbus Day, which is particularly dear to Americans of Italian descent who celebrate their origins with a parade down Fifth Avenue subsequent to the mass.
The association with St. Patrick will continue later in the year when Friar Alessandro has agreed to do a Christmas concert at the invitation of the Irish friars in Dublin on a date to be fixed after the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception, on 8th December. Friar Alessandro returns willingly to Ireland having experienced the beauty of its rugged and wild scenery in the north, south, east and west, enjoying especially the resounding waves of the Atlantic Ocean in the Aran Islands and Donegal on his last trip there. The concert will give Alessandro the opportunity to sing some of the songs from his Christmas Album, “Voice of Joy”, recorded in London and Bethlehem to an Irish audience coming up to the Christmas season itself.
